Double click

I'd love to start understanding Keynote but it seems I am thoroughly confused by it. All I'm trying to do is build upon a slide. The project I am trying to build is like the face of a clock. I start with the circle, and sequentially add the 1,2,3... for each new slide. Simple. But when I hit the play button I have to double-click each slide. I duplicated each slide so I wouldn't have to recreate the slide 12 times but when doing so, Keynote seems to add an extra hidden step that I cannot find anywhere. When I go to the top dropdown menu under Play > Rehearse Slideshow, I can see the extra slide labeled as "Builds Remaining" which I do not understand at all. I just want it to advance to the next slide, not this hidden slide(build) that makes me have to click a second time. What I would think should be easy is proving to be a PITA. Anyone know where I'm going wrong?

Your description is confusing:

1 - are you using slides with the objects animated on to the slide with Builds (Inspector /Animate / Builds)?

2 - or do you have a set of slides?

In either situation, you have added a build to the slide

check for unwanted objects on the slide, it may be hidden behind one of the other objects

to do this, select all the objects on the slide (Edit > Select all)

in this example, a square shape is hidden behind the circle shape

If you find unwanted objects delete them and test play
