Since macOS 11.2.2 Mac keeps restarting by itself
I put my screen to sleep and when I come back a few hours later, the system has restarted all by itself. Any ideas?

Are there any AntiVirus, Disk Cleaner, Optimizers, Defrag, VPNs etc installed which should be removed as per Developers Instructions. They are useless, unneeded, cause havoc and interfere with the normal operation of the OS. The Built-in Security of Big Sur is all that is required. - if does not apply - disregard

are you sure it's logging you out? or could it just be asking for a password upon re-awakening? you can check by going into SystemPreferences>Security&Privacy under the general tab and see if "Require password" is check marked or not.
Normal - and check the directions suggested by @jeffreythefrog to verify.
You see, this is done for you protection - Required Password after a period of sleep, lid closed or inactivity and cold boot. This also occurs even with the iPhone.
It is very much logging me out. I have always required a password on waking. I can tell I was logged out as all those little things that start have to restart (Outlook for example). This never happened until I updated to 11.2.2.
I do experience exactly the same issue as described here. I do confirm, it is not a log off, but a restart as I get the message stating that there was a problem and Mac was restarted and then I get the option to send the message to Apple. Also, when I am with the computer, I get the multilingual panic error message.
I have used Mac for two decades and this is a new Mac from 09/20, installed fresh, no such SW like you mention, no antivirus, defrag, mackeepermalware or anything like that. dozens of apps for my work only.
I do have VPN, but it is not used when it happens. BTW what is wrong with VPN?
VPNs - commercial VPNs purport to keep your data usage Private . . the Jury is really out on that point. Under normal usage and circumstances - a VPN is not required except for doing ones Banking and / or connecting to the Workplace Network. Both instances may require an added level of privacy but security . . like said earlier Jury is Out. Then there is the Interference with the Normal Operation of the OS. Any software installed on macOS that alters, modifies, removes aspect of the OS - is an invitation for trouble to the point of corrupting the OS.
All I am sure is that everything worked just fine until this most recent update. This "feature" that logs me out when the screen is locked seems like the same kind of "feature" that prevented my MacBook Air from charging at times.
There is no reason this problem has to exist. THIS IS A BUG IN MACOS.
Well, surprise, surprise, surprise. An updated Big Sur and the problem vanishes. Just like that "feature" where my MacBook Air would not charge on a previous "update".
Does it do the same while boot into Safe Mode ) Shift - immediately at Startup
As it turns out, it's not restarting but logging me out. Is that normal when you put the screen to sleep?
I do have a VPN installed. It was never a problem before. I will try disabling it before locking the screen to see if it makes a difference.
Yes, I have it set to ask for a password. There's a huge difference between asking for password and logging in.
