MacBook Pro 16 restarting issue

Hello

My Macbook automatically restarts over the night or when the screen is closed. When this happens all my work Is also closed (browser, apps....) Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I do have a Bootcamp Partition which I use every day, and my MacBook is fully updated. I don't know If bootcamp could've anything to do with this problem.

My brand new macbook pro 16 (Shipped 2. april 2020) also restarted (crashed) over nigth - actually it crashed (Kernel Panic GPU) everytime it went to sleep mode. I had nothing installed except default OSX with updates.

I can confirm @Kappy solution, but I also did an internet recovery.

  1. Reset: Pram & NVRAM (still crashed)
  2. Reset: SMC (still crashed)
  3. Internet Recovery Command+Option+R (when booting) (Crashed under installation, but continued afterwards)
  4. Disabled Sleep & PowerNap (Problems disappeared)
  5. Two days later I enabled Sleep and powernap again (Still no problems)

I don't know if step 1-2 is necessary, but I think so.

So a macbook pro 16 that I almost returned, is now working perfectly - and I'm very happy:-)

If I'm correct, this is a bug of some kind that hasn't yet been fixed. You should report it to Apple: Bug Reporter - Submit a bug report with Apple Bug Reporter. I found some help but it may not work for everyone.

In Energy Saver preferences do you have PowerNap enabled? If enabled, try disabling it; if disabled, then try enabling it. While there check the box to Prevent sleep when display is off. Also, Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM and Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support (use instructions for models w/T2 chip). Go to the HDD:/Library/Caches/ folder and delete the contents. I believe there is one protected folder you can't delete, so just delete the others.

There is a definite bug that needs fixing but it was not addressed in the recent supplemental update. I think you should ignore that update since it is, reportedly, bricking some models.
