Slow transfer speeds from iPhone 12 Pro to Mac, using files and SMB

I am in the process of transferring files from my an iPhone 12 Pro to my 16" MBP running macOS 11.2.2, but the transfer speed is painfully slow, at just 1MB per second!?


They are both connected to the same network. If I do pings beyond the network from each network, then they both get 600-800 Mb/s transfer. I even tried connecting the two devices via USB, but that does not change anything.


Can anyone suggest what could be causing the slow down and how to resolve this?
