new iphone 12 max pro can not log into my icloud account

I got a new iphone 12 max pro updating from an iphone 8 plus. I used the easy update process and worked fine except for when I go to settings> update Apple ID setting> and enter my apple id password the app hangs for 30 minutes then fails. Four of my apps uses my icloud account they all work fine. I can log into my icloud account through safari on the new iphone. I can validate my icloud account is aware of my new iphone. Any suggestions on how to fix the setting > Apple id settings> password issue?

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have no trouble with your Apple ID login except on your iPhone. Let’s see if we can help.


Have you tried to Restart your iPhone? Sometimes just a good refresh can help.


Are you using Wi-Fi or cellular data when signing in? We recommend Wi-Fi and make sure you have a good strong signal. And if possible, don’t use public Wi-Fi when signing into your Apple ID.


After restarting if you still are unable to sign in, reach back out to us.
