Would the unwanted messages be SMS text - as forwarded from your iPhone? If so, simply disable Text Message Forwarding on your iPhone:
On your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding - set to OFF - or explicitly disable your iPad from the list of devices.
If you wish to completely disable Messages on your iPad, either sign-out - or disable from Settings...
On your iPad, to sign-out of iMessage:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > [AppleID] > Sign Out
To disable:
Settings > Messages > iMessage - set to OFF
