The iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-42408).

Does anyone know why an error would be unknown? In this case, I'm trying to sync my iPad Pro from my iMac and am getting the message:

The iPad “Xxxxx” cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-42408).

I've restarted the iPad, but it continues to give this message. I recently updated to iOS 14.4.1. Perhaps the new iOS has a problem?

My iMac is running Big Sur (11.1). Big Sur has been restarting on its own every day or so since I upgraded, so maybe Big Sur is just buggy?

Any advice would be helpful.
