Find & Replace not working in Numbers. Buttons greyed out.

For some reason the buttons to "Replace All" "Replace & Find" and "Replace" are all greyed out in the dialogue box.

Hi FirePhantom,

Click on the right arrow (bottom right of the Find & Replace box) to activate.

Along those lines,

If it is a column of formulas you need to alter, after backing up your file try this:

  1. Create a new column beside the column of formulas
  2. Use the FORMULATEXT function to turn the formulas into text in this new column.
  3. Copy the resulting "formula text" then Paste Formula Results back to the column to make it actual text.
  4. Select a cell in the column of "formula text" then do your Find/Replace All.
  5. Copy the column of altered "formula text" and paste it into the original column, overwriting your formulas
  6. Select the column and change the cell format to Automatic. They should turn back into formulas.
  7. Delete the extra column

If the text does not turn into formulas for some reason, change the format to text then change it to automatic.

Might be a bit much but it seems to work. It beats doing a column of formulas one at a time.
