When in Facetime, others cannot see me but I can see them.

I have been having issues using Facetime on my iMac (2019). Others cannot see me but I can see them. No issue when using Zoom. When I switched to Safe Boot, it works as normal. Is it because of my Norton 360? It seems to happen around the same time I installed that.

Thanks.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I tried all those suggestions and the problem did not get resolved. However, I found the culprit which hopefully can be shared on this forum. The culprit is Norton 360. After Big Sur was rolled out, apparently Norton 360's Vulnerable Protection blocks Facetime to show my face. It was revealed on the Norton User Forum but Norton does not have a fix yet (may be hoping Apple to fix it?) In the meantime, I turn the protection off and Facetime works normally.

Hey PCM888USA,

We understand that you're no long able to use FaceTime because the front camera isn't showing you at all. If you believe this might be connected to a specific app causing this, you can temporarily uninstall the app and test to see if the issue persists or not. That will help isolate it to that app or not.

Since the issue doesn't happen in safe mode please check out the steps below, from the following article, to see if those help: How to use safe mode on your Mac

"If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode

If the issue doesn't continue while in safe mode, leave safe mode by restarting your Mac normally. Then test for the issue again. The issue might be resolved.

If the issue returns after leaving safe mode, startup items are probably at fault. Apps can install such items in numerous places, and they aren't always easy to find or recognize. For that reason, you should first make sure that you've installed any available updates for your Apple software and third-party apps.

If updating your software doesn't help, try any of these solutions:

  • Test your login items.
  • To learn whether software in your user account is causing the issue, set up a new user account, then log in to it and try to reproduce the issue in that account.
  • Unplug all accessories from your Mac, including printers, drives, USB hubs, and other nonessential devices. You could have an issue with one or more of those devices or their cables.
  • Reinstall macOS."

Let us know how those steps go. Take care!
