Migration assist

Migration assist has not progressed for over an hour. How can I tell if has crashed? What will happen to the transferred data if I cancel and start again another time?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

If Migration Assistant is still running, it hasn't crashed. If it doesn't progress, cancel the migration and retry.

It isn’t running as it is now over 2h since the number of files transferred changed. This is already my 3rd attempt - didn’t even get past “starting up” before. So what happens to the files that have already transferred if I cancel? Are they deleted? Will it start from scratch?
