It is not very old to have a battery problem, but rechargeable, Lithium-ion batteries can prematurely fail with no real reason.
You need to search online to locate and call contact your nearest, “local” Apple Store location to try/attempt to make an appointment to get your 6th gen iPad diagnosed and possible options presented to you.
