reset of macbook air not working

Need to return a new Macbook Air running Catalina due to a cosmetic defect.

I had only signed into my icloud before i noticed the huge scratch on the case.

So I signed out of icloud, signed out of messaging. Hadn’t even set up itunes yet, but deauthorized that.

Then I shut down.

But when i turned it on after a few minutes, there’s my picture and it’s asking for my password.

I have checked and my icloud is off, messages off, itunes not authorized so what else do I need to do? I tried opening in recovery and erasing the hard drive but since there’s nothing on the hard drive it won’t let me do that.
