final cut and iMovie, Chrome, Freezing up on MBP 16" 2019

I have a MBP2019 16", equipped for video editing and other heavy tasks: Memory, 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4; Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB, and 8 TB. Every time I attempt to edit any larger projects (20 mins to 2 hours of video), with no other programs running, the computer gets very hot, fans start running super fast, and the programs (iMovie or Final Cut Pro) freeze and must be force quit after more than 30 mins. This also happens when I use Google Chrome. -i tried everything (killing runaway apps within activity monitor; resetting SMC; removing Chrome...) to no avail. I paid lots of money for this, and really don't want to go the route of installing software, or buying an eGPU, but am open to any and all advice. I bought this for work, and now cannot work. thank you in advance! ~m
