print to pdf - compression level?

Hi all,

when i print a ms word document to pdf, where can i set the compression factor and desired resolution in dpi for embedded pictures?


The resulting pdf file will be much too big.


osx 10.13.6, ms word for mac 2011 / 14.0.0


File size word document: 260,9 MB

print to pdf: 260,9mb

save as pdf: 260,9mb


print to pdf on windows 10: 20 mb

Make a copy of that Word document on the Mac, and install the free LibreOffice v7.1.1. Open the Word document in LibreOffice Writer, and export to PDF. That export panel allows you to designate the DPI setting for images in the PDF, and as it is not using Apple's PDF library, your PDF may be much smaller.


Also, Word 14.0.0 is simply ancient, and you have ignored all of its updates ending with 14.7.7. That too may have an effect on the generated PDF outcome.
