It’s a rumor. There are people still using iPhones well over 5 years. Apple has no control over how long anyone uses their devices. Just because an older device is no longer compatible with the most recent iOS version doesn’t mean it does not work. It just cannot be updated to run the latest operating system version.

The original AT&T iPhone from 2007 is of course now useless, but only because AT&T has shut down their 2G network. Many of those devices still power on and work, just not as cell phones.

so confirming from the settings page. IOS = 13.3.1 model name iphone 7. dont know what other info you want? carrier was unlocked dont remember if it was done in japan or South africa but was using a local simcard here and it was working. currently using it in south Africa. well i went to a couple of apple stores. they basically said they have seen this problem before and if i factory reset or try to reinstall IOS the phone will boot into black screen since IOS wont update... (basically exactly these words)

so confirming from the settings page on phone itself. IOS = 13.3.1 model name A1779 iphone 7. was unlocked either there or here so i have used a local sim (no idea what that entails) delete the update files trying to run it again. i dont know one person said its something like apple wont let you use the same iphone for 5 or 10 years, so this happens. (maybe its a rumor no idea)

well thats just what i heard. I really didnt like using apple because of carrier settings problems. now since my other phone is not working, I thought that i might aswell try use it (since i really dont want to buy a new phone yet) ... well assuming carrier settings force you to update IOS (since now(before and before i stopped using it) its saying error update required), so if you cant get ios how do you separately update carrier settings? (I dont know much about iphones, only worked on ipads and macs)
