Big Sur & Hikvision IVMS-4200 Compatibility

Hello All,

I would like to upgrade my Mac OS from Catalina to Big Sur however I'm wondering if my Hikvision IVMS-4200 software will work? I've got Hikvision IVMS-4200 version 2.0.0.10 Build 20190625. It's been running on Mac OS Catalina v10.15.7 without issues. The Hikvision web site does not have any information on the compatibility of Big Sur with IVMS-4200. IVMS-4200 software is what I connect to my NVR to view POE cameras.

Thanks in advance.

Peter

I currently run iVMS 4200 v2.0.0.10 Build 20190625 on macOS Big Sur Version 11.2.3 on a MacBookPro12,1

It is not stable, but it runs. Crashes on exit every time for some reason, and every time I press a button it takes a few seconds to recognize the command.

Honestly, it feels like they took a 32-bit version of the program and are just running it something similar to a Wine Wrapper, and saying "good enough" for 64 bit MacOS.

I would not recommend upgrading unless you have another method of accessing your cameras that you're OK with using to pull footage or do anything other than just simply have a screen up with some live feeds on it. I also have a PC that I run iVMS Lite on with no issues, which is why I don't mind updating my Mac, I don't NEED the cameras on this laptop.

I'm a heavy Hikvision camera user and use iVMS-4200 on my Macs. Runs fine on Big Sur.

The only issue I get from time to time is that it does not want to shut-down cleanly. Sometimes the app hangs or stalls. Not often, but it does. A quick command-Q or force-quit from the menu always does it for me.

I wish Hikvision would develop a "real" MacOS-native app instead of whatever windows-converted program they're using.

Jus make sure you download the most recent version of the iVMS app that is 64-bit.

One surefire way to ensure it will continue working is to not upgrade to Big Sur until you know beyond a reasonable doubt that the vendor supports it on Big Sur. Otherwise, a fellow user would have braved a Darwin award by upgrading to Big Sur and discovering the Hikvision IVMS-4200 compatibility, one way or another.

If Hikvision is releasing software updates, someone there must know whether they presently, or plan to support Big Sur.

The SecuritySpy software is also multi-camera software and is running on Big Sur.

Hi Dan,

Thanks so much. I'm going to stay put with my Mac OS Catalina since IVMS-4200 works as expected. Unfortunately I don't have a PC. My iMac desktop is my main computer.

Hikvision did respond to me. They suggested a version that they are using the Europe, which I was hesitant to try at this time. Hopefully they will incorporate a version of IVMS that is compatible with Big Sur.

Thanks again. Peter
