Health app distance calc is way off

Recently the Health app is not calculating my walking distance accurately (it's off by .5 miles on a 3.5-mile walk; saying I walked 3 miles). It used to be accurate. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 14

Hi bikemarlene,

Understood, thanks. As this information is being pulled directly from your iPhone, we'd recommend checking the settings from the articles below to improve GPS accuracy and ensure location services is enabled.

About privacy and Location Services in iOS and iPadOS

Control the location information you share on iPhone

Additionally, you may want to check your device during this walk to see if you're losing cellular service at any point as this wouldn't allow for an accurate recording.

We recommend also taking a look at the section "Prioritize data sources" from the article here to ensure the sources that the Health app uses first are set to your personal preference. Manage Health data on your iPhone

You can also test a normal restart of your device, and ensure your iOS is fully up to date.

Restart your iPhone

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!
