I have a 2013 iMac and use it faithfully when I am at home and a much newer Macbook Pro as well for when I travel. I have read that the new iMac will have the M1 chip and that it may become available in March 2021. I would love to confirm this. Is it true? I'll be first to order one. Thanks for any insight.

Not much longer. You probably already know per yesterday's (Apr 20th) Apple Event, 2021 M1 iMacs will be available for purchase Apr 30th with delivery mid-May.

Apple announced the new 24" M1 based iMacs yesterday (4/20/21), according to Apple they will be available to order 4/30/021 and they will begin to ship the second 1/2 of May, 2021.
There's no official release date, only rumors.
You will know when we do, Apple does not normally publish release dates and certainly has not announced any new iMacs.
