Horizontal Lines on Screen Macbook Air M1 2021

Please Help!! My MacBook's screen suddenly got these horizontal lines on the entire screen that get brighter and darker every other second! I don't know what happened!! I just got this Macbook in January and I don't know if it's been doing this for a while but I noticed this morning when turned it on!! Please help me I'm so scared of telling my mom because this costs a lot and I don't want to have it fixed in such a short time of using it. My os is updated to the latest one and I don't know what else to do. I am a new MacBook user.

So, the progress on my laptop issue is that I took it to the apple store and they said it would be fixed for free of charge because there is no visible point of impact. And it mught just be a problem with the device that you purchased but once they took it in they sent me an invoice of 79 pounds saying the screen has been cracked. I really needed the laptop back so I paid the amount, even though I didn't do anything wrong. I have never been so disappointed with any company so much before. This is going to be my last apple purchase for sure. They send you a device, their employee agree that it was the fault with the model, then they make you wait 7 days for the repair and just when you absolutely need it back, they ask you to pay. I hope things go well for you though.

I have the same problem. Yesterday, I came back to my desk after lunch and the Macbook Air that I purchased in January of 2021 had thin horizontal lines across the entire screen top to bottom. I turned my computer off and restarted a couple of times because that is always the first advice one is given with computers. That didn't work so I immediately called Apple. I was on the phone with them for 37 minutes and the person I spoke with had me hold Control, Option and Shift for 7 seconds and then press the power button and hold all 4 keys for 7 seconds. Afterward, I found the support page where the information is clearly laid out: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

However, despite attempt after attempt, the screen only got worse and I got vertical lines in addition to horizontal lines. He had me keep going. Then the screen started to flicker. He had me try the reset again and then my screen went completely black while we were on the phone. He set me up to go to a store in the area to have it checked out and I have the appointment today. The screen is no longer black but I have the thin horizontal lines and it continues to flicker periodically (I don't know how else to describe this). When I reboot, I have the horizontal lines, vertical lines and the flickering.

The computer has not been dropped and has no damage. I spent a lot of money on this new computer -- I even upgraded to the 512 GB of storage. This should not be happening and I will update on the progress of this issue since I see that I'm not alone in having this problem. If anyone else had this problem and resolved it, I would love to hear what you did!

An update on my Macbook Air (Jan 2021) -- I took it to an authorized business (appointment scheduled through Apple) and they determined that it was a problem with the screen and with the laptop itself (not the user) so the screen was replaced for free (it was under the limited warranty). They ordered a new screen and replaced the old one. Problem fixed! No lines and no flickering!

I am past the 90 days to buy the AppleCare+ with my laptop but I´m considering calling Apple and making a case to be able to buy it given the screen is new. What if the same thing happens to this new screen?? I didn´t buy AppleCare+ because I bought it with the last laptop (2015) and didn't need to use it. Conversely, I had a major problem with this one 4 months after purchase.

I've having the same issue. I've noticed this often lately with my macbook air m1 bought last december 2020. When the screen goes off after inactive and you open it again, it will show the horizontal flicker lights. @apple should have an update for this so we don't have to go to service centers. BTW, my laptop is in a case, screen protector, track protector, keyboard protector since day 1 and has never been dropped.

I recommend calling Apple Care and having them direct you to the nearest, certified Apple repair store. They will try to help you resolve the issue before making the appointment, but if it doesn´t work, they will make an appointment to help you get it fixed.

That was my experience. They replaced the screen and it was covered under the limited warranty. This should not be happening only months after buying a brand new laptop. They´ll fix it for you.

Same here. Bought a Macbook air for my daughter during lockdown last year. COmputer only in her room -she is a scholar. Not frequently used. Now this problem and Apple has already charged me R600 in courier fees to repair centre, and now sent quote to repair LCD display module for R8041. I find it absolutely ridiculous!!!

So this was the exact same problem for me too, and only you, a lot of people had the same issue. I brought it from an authorized reseller back in Bangladesh. But then I started having this issues on my m1. I came to Canada and decided to call Apple Service, since I had Hardware Coverage. Then I had to send my device, and they replaced this for free. I am wondering if I should ask for an AppleCare Service.
