Menu bar unresponsive

The macOS Big Sur menu bar becomes unresponsive from time to time.

Specifically the "Apple Menu" and the "App Menus" in the left part.

The menubar apps and the Notification Centre in the right part work fine.

I'm on a M1 MacBook Pro, with an Apple Keyboard, a Magic Mouse and an LG 32" external display connected.

The menu seems to freeze when the first notifications come in, but I'm not sure about that.

The login screen als has an issue: a beige colored section appears at the left, about an inch wide, full height.

Same thing just happened to me. M1 Mini. Had to reboot from terminal.

I just posted a similar question about the same problem, the menu bar locking up/unresponsive, but only on the left hand side. The right hand items--WiFi, Bluetooth, Widgets, etc.--all work perfectly, and the problem is the same in the Finder and any applications that happen to be running. I find it both baffling and disappointing.

This constantly happens to my M1 MacBook Air, with an Apple Keyboard and Mouse. Seriously frustrated with this new Mac running Big Sur.
