Iphone volume buttons not working after pairing wit

After pairing with the Homepod mini. and playing some music on it or listening to podcasts. the volume buttons on iPhone stop working. They only change the volumes on the Homepod mini. no matter what you do. unless doing a reset on iPhone. and the problem starts all over again when you play something on the Homepod and you try to control the volume from iPhone.

Open the control center by swiping down from the top right corner, tap the volume control, normally top right, then tap Control Other Speakers & TVs. The iPhone's volume buttons should affect whatever speakers or device you have selected here.

With other devices that work. ( headphones etc...). but once you try to adjust the volume of Homepod mini from iPhone. it never goes back to the phone. It is really annoying!! to the point that I am considering not using it at all. I have the latest software on both devices. I don't know if all the phones and Homepods will have the same issue. but apparently, I am not the only one as I found in Reddit.

No, from the control center I can select the iPhone. but the buttons stay on Homepod. even if nothing is playing. even if I turn off my phone connection, or unplug the Homepod. I can only adjust the volume by going to the Control Center and using the volume bar. but buttons are gone. unless I restart the iPhone. The problem is triggered when I try to adjust the volume from iPhone I guess.
