Apple Pay not working

My Apple Pay isn’t working. I type in my passcode at checkout but it keeps telling me to try again. It works for subscriptions but not for online purchases.

Apple pay It once was so easy and now I’m confused. I go to pay with my credit card that is in Apple Pay and it says “confirm with assistive touch” which is grayed out. Nothing I do at that point works. Not double click on the side, nothing. What setting do I need to change? Frustrating, once so simple now so difficult.
