Talking on iPhone with an external microphone

I would like to talk on my iPhone using my external microphone, but I can't find a way for my Phone app to toggle from the built-in microphone and select my external microphone. I can use the external mic with Facetime, Facetime provides the option to select my external mic. But I can't find a way to talk on the phone with my external mic. Can anyone help me?

Hey there SpeedyAnswer,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you're having issues with using your external microphone when making phone calls, and we'd be happy to take a closer look into what's going on.

To start, did the microphone you purchased come with any instructions on how this works? Additionally some accessories may come with specific apps that may be required.

If not, try connecting the mic after first placing the call, and see if this helps at all.

If the issue still continues, try using the external mic to make a Voice Memo and see if that works. This will can help you determine if there is an issue with the external mic or connection.

This article has more details:

We hope this helps.

Take care.
