Messages on MacBook 2017 version.

Sometimes when people text me on my MacBook, I don't get the notification and the banner doesn't pop up. So when I click on messages and view the message that the person sent me, it's already opened (the blue dot that shows you have an unread message isn't there) and I didn't view it from any other device. I wonder if there is a way to solve this problem?

Hello, ashley_handley!

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here.

We see that you're having some trouble with messages notifying you as expected on your MacBook. It's definitely important that you're able to be reached on all the devices you use.

To start, we want to recommend ensuring that your MacBook is fully up to date. This can seem simple but a lot of issues are resolved simply by a macOS update. Here's how to do that:

How to update the software on your Mac

If you're up to date and the issue keeps happening, we'd recommend making sure that your notifications are set up to notify you as you're intending them. This article has more information: Receive, pause, or stop notifications on Mac

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!
