iCloud Migration Error 101 (March 2021)

I've been reading all the problems going on with this migration error as of 16 March 201, but seems, still, no one has the solution to this. I installed iCloud to my desktop computer (Win10, everything is updated, defragged, everything), and I get the same pop-up reply with title "iCloud Migration".... "Upgrade to iCloud for Windows 12.2 failed. Please reboot and try again." (Error 101). I installed iCloud again because Microsoft Store told me I didn't have it even though I do, none of this makes sense Microsoft tells me it's already installed, very confused here. And I am unable to remove iCloud or delete, all I get is the dreaded hourglass but nothing removed, and I have to use ctrl-alt-del to refresh or get rid of this hourglass. Sometimes nothing happens and I have to restart my computer again just to get the same pop-up migration. I can't even delete my iphone photos because of this....it won't allow me to do anything when this iPhone is connected to my desktop. And yes, every folder on my computer is in "shared" mode, no restrictions. I've also tried "CopyTrans" software I purchased over a year ago and even that doesn't work, so I deleted that software, and still get the migration issue after a fresh restart and deletion of CopyTrans.

I also noticed there's a connection attempt with Microsoft Outlook in Office not being updated (I have the 2007 Office Edition, hope I don't need to purchase a newer version of Office to get iCloud to work!). I also have Microsoft OneDrive, tried deactivation, but still the migration issue.

Seems this problem started when the Microsoft Store took over for iCloud and screwed everything up! Can someone please help? Thank you.

Hi hooahsioux,

Thanks for posting! Being able to use iCloud for Windows is definitely important. It sounds like you're receiving some errors relating to iCloud migration, and we'd like to help out.

To clarify a few points, what was the exact message you saw relating to Outlook not being updated? This resource provides System requirements for iCloud and recommends using "Outlook 2016 or later," and this sounds like a possible factor if you're using the 2007 version.

While the best steps might vary depending on the answer to the above, this link offers some troubleshooting steps that may be useful If you can't download or install iCloud for Windows. Give these a try and let us know if it helps, and the details regarding the Outlook update alert you saw.

Take care.

Hello hooahsioux,

Thanks for the reply! Regarding uninstalling iCloud for Windows, do the steps below work for you? These are from the resource titled Set up and use iCloud for Windows:

"Turn off or uninstall iCloud for Windows

If you turn off a service in iCloud for Windows, your information won't automatically stay up to date in iCloud, and you won't see updates made on your other devices. Follow these steps to turn off a service or iCloud:

  • To turn off a service on your PC, Open iCloud for Windows, then select or deselect that service. To save your changes, click Apply.
  • To turn off iCloud for Windows, open iCloud for Windows, then sign out.

If you want to uninstall iCloud for Windows, remember to make a copy of your iCloud data and save it on your PC. Then sign out of iCloud for Windows on your PC, and follow these steps:

Windows 8 or later:

  1. Go to the Start screen, right-click in the bottom-left corner or click, then select Control Panel.
  2. Click Uninstall a Program.
  3. Click iCloud > Uninstall.
  4. When asked to confirm, select Yes.

Windows 7:

  1. Choose Start menu > Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs > Program and Features.
  3. Select iCloud > Uninstall.
  4. Click OK to continue."

If this doesn't work for you to uninstall iCloud for Windows, that's when we recommend that you Contact Apple Support to look into this further.

Best wishes.

Didn't know you now have to have Outlook 2016 to make iCloud work.

But now I have another issue. How do i delete and remove iCloud completely from my computer?

I'm inside the APPS of Windows 10 desktop, clicked uninstall, and it states it's uninstalling but an hour later it's still uninstalling and it shows no progress or no blue bar sliding to remove it.

Is this all new regarding the Outlook 2016 to make iCloud work? I had iCloud working fine on this computer until a few weeks ago when iCloud all of a sudden quit working completely on its own and I did not touch or delete anything regarding iCloud. Is this "mandatory" to have Outlook 2016 to make iCloud work again? According to the iCloud app details on Microsoft store I'd have to have Outlook 2016 for Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. I don't use any of those. The only reason I use iCloud is for when I take pictures from my iPhone they used to automatically transfer to my "Pictures" folder from my desktop instantly. Now I can't seem to do that anymore. And again, I didn't even mess with iCloud. So, I'm suspecting this Outlook 2016 is a new thing for iCloud and that I'm to purchase Outlook 2016? Microsoft's way of saying they're still money hungry I guess.
