Apple Watch dim screen clock overlay

When I’m using my Apple Watch series 6, if I have an app open and want it to stay open and be able to look at the information it presents I can’t because after a bit the screen dims and a digital clock readout shows. Then I have to tap my screen to continue to see the data from the app I have open and am wanting to see. And this keeps happening. This is very frustrating. Any ideas how to turn this “feature” off. I don’t want the screen to dim and blur out the app I want to look at.
