Comments and keywords

I spent a lot of time adding comments and keywords to family pictures on my MacBook Pro. These are all in the same album I created for family history. I have shared this album and the people I have shared with cannot see any of the comments or keywords.

To add to the mystery, I can see none of the comments etc on my iPad either in the main album or the shared album.

What am I doing wrong?

When you share photos in a shared album, all comments and keywords, dates and times, locations will be stripped, when you share the photos. When I create a shared album, I share each photo individually and add a comment to the shred photo while sharing it. There is currently no easy way to share photos at the full resolution and with all metadata preserved. To share photos with all metadata, export them from photos to a folder and enable the checkmark to include all metadata. Then put these photos into a shared folder on iCloud Drive or in a Dropbox folder or similar. Which system version do you have installed? If you are using macOS 11 Big Sur, there is an unfortunate bug, that exported JPEGs are also missing the titles and keywords. On Big Sur you may want to export the photos as TIFF files to save all metadata.

Thank you for your detailed answer.

I am using Big Sur and have spotted a few bugs in Photos, hopefully they will be picked up in an update.

I have found a temporary way around this by exporting the album and reloading it into Google Photos and sharing it from there.

Not very elegant is it?

Thank you again for your reply.
