volume being encrypted stops me from downloading the system

the os will not instal because it says the volume is being encrypted

"You may not install to this volume because it is currently being encrypted" I bought a new computer, logged in, attempted to update the OS. Something went wrong and it restarted my computer, then wouldn't let me log in to my profile even when I use the correct password. So I tried to reinstall the OS in recovery mode and now I'm getting "you may not install to this volume because it is currently being encrypted. I keep seeing that you have to wait for it to finish encrypting, then disable it, but since I can't log in to my profile there's no way for me to do that.

High Sierra to Mojave I'm trying to install Mojave on a MacBook Air 2017. When selecting the disk to install the new OS I get a message saying 'You may not install to this volume because it is currently being encrypted.' What is this all about?

Will have to wait until it has finished Encrypting before moving onwards.
