Cloud Music Library

I am trying to sync my mini to my Max Pro. I bought Apple Music since I did not find any other way.

I activated sync on the mini and the phone. When I try to sync, it says: "To sync music from this Mac, turn off Cloud Music Library".

Questions:

On the Mac?

On the phone?

How do I do that?

Thanks

Before going too far does you library exist on the Mac mini, or are you hoping to sync it from the iPhone? See Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music - Apple Support. In general if you have an Apple Music subscription you would enable Sync Library AKA iCloud Music Library in both your computer and your phone. That way content and changes made to the iCloud Music Library can flow in either direction over the air, and there is no need to sync. Do this, and merge your iPhone's library with the cloud, if for some reason your Mac doesn't have your music. If you really want to sync the iPhone with the library that is on the computer then you turn off Sync Library on the iPhone in order to turn off that alert.

Hi tt2,

we won the battle, thanks to you and your advice.

This is what happened:

I did:

Backup using iTunes

Restore as a new device

Restore (I did not know what to expect but the iTunes library had 0 songs)

Then I tried to Sync with iTunes. It did not work (conflicts with Apple Music, I think)

Tried Sync with Finder and It worked!!!!!!! my music Library on the Max Pro had 28K songs

in a long time instead of 55K.

I wanted to thank you for your interest in solving this problem. I will definitely tell Verizon

about the problem that caused Transfer...

Thanks again!

I tried your advice. I turned off the Sync Music on the phone and tried again.
I connected the phone to the mini, the phone appeared on the left part of Music, clicked on the
little phone and selected Sync Entire library. since the 'Sync Library', was off. it continued.
It copied the entire library.
So, I ended with 55K songs on my phone instead of 27K, that is what the Master library has.
What am I doing wrong???
Thanks

Do you mean that the iPhone has 55K songs while the Mac mini only has 27K, e.g. it would seem that music has been duplicated on the device? If so see this post on erratic syncing.

OK, what I call my master library is in the mini, and I add CDs once in a while. Then, once in a while I would like to add to my phone what is not still there. That is what I call Sync the mini to my phone.

I was doing this for years, ALL the music is mine, I have bought it through the years, using iTunes on a Mac Air tuning Mojave.

All I needed to do was to connect my phone and say Sync. iTunes would add to my phone the CDs that were not there.

The first time that I tried to do this with the new phone (Max Pro), iTunes added ALL the music to my phone, not just the one that was not there. So, in my phone, every album had every song twice.

Then some people suggested using Finder, same thing...

I started asking for a way to delete all the songs from the phone, that way when finder would add ALL the songs to my phone, I would end up with a full copy of my master on the phone. Somebody suggested delete The Whole App, I did but when I was downloading the app from the App Store, it would come with ALL the songs that were there before I deleted the App.

Then I thought that maybe buying Apple Music ($7.99/Mo) it could be done, because "without buying Apple Music the 'Sync Library' option would not appear".

I understand why they want me to turn it off, they don't want me to steal the music from Apple Music. I really don't care about the music in Apple Music.

Well, if I want to sync, I have to buy Apple Music but then when I try to sync, they ask me to turn it off.

All I want is to sync my music, I don't care about Apple Music or its content.

Hi tt2,

Now that my Max Pro music library is pretty much ruined, my method to restore it is to use Verizon Transfer. it supposeddly makes an image of the old phone in the new phone. In my case I went from a iPhone X to la Max Pro.

You don't suppose that the method I follow to recreate the iPhone has something to do with the problem, do you??

If you think it might have something to do with the problem I can follow the instructions in Erratic Sync, just tell me what to use to backup/restore.

Thanks
