Apple TV 4K won’t Turn off Hisense

Hi guys,

Just installed a new Apple TV 4K into my new 75inch hisense 4k tv and it won’t turn the tv off using the apple remote.

The remote turns the tv, Apple TV, sound bar on. It adjusts volume on sound bar ok. It just won’t turn tv off when you put the Apple TV to sleep.

all hdmi CEC settings are on, I’ve disconnected HDMI cable out of both unit and tv and still won’t turn tv off. Only turns the sound bar and Apple TV off.

any other tips or sequence of disconnecting hdmi cables to get the remote to turn off my hisense tv?

cheers,

brendan

As per documentation the power button is for sleep/wake of the Apple TV (and the TV still relies on CEC for power on/off). So it comes back to the previous, which means the TV manufacturer has to fix. There was a recent issue with Sony TVs having similar symptom and once investigated they released a firmware update that included a fix.

I do not mean it as a universal remote, but there is no doubt that the new remote responds to the users like me, that only want to use one remote, and we want to use the Apple one. It is not like I want to control everything with the Apple remote, but following what Amazon did with the remote of the Fire TV, to be able to configure volume and on/off control with two devices. That would unify the experience with the Apple TV no matter what your TV set or audio system are.

I haven't seen anything to indicate that there is actual configuration with Amazon's remote for controlling those different devices, just that it has similar shortcuts on the remote. The previous Siri remote already had volume, which could control TV and other devices using IR. This is just adding the mute and power.

That being said the new Apple TV and remote are not out yet so we also can't really say for sure whether or not it will be able to do it, we'll have to wait and see.

I have a Fire TV Stick in my mother’s house where the remote turns on and off the TV and the sound bar, which is connected using optical cable. I do not know if the bar turns off because the TV turns off or it is the remote doing the job. I had to configure the brands of both the TV and the sound bar in the Fire TV config. Let us hope we can get at least the same thing from our preferred brand 🧑‍💻
