Multitasking/slide over view

I hate this feature and want to turn it off. I can see where it could be useful IF I choose to use it, but it should t be automatic. How do I turn it off? I checked the iPad user guide and couldn’t find the correct search terms. Please just give a simple answer without sending me somewhere else.
