Face ID and masks

Why isn’t it a feature that face Id recognizes you with a mask? Especially since we’re in a pandemic? Also when I’m not able to use Face ID to verify or unlock my phone, the Face ID option stays there for 20 scnds before offering to enter my password . If the phone sees a mask then could you add a feature where it still recognizes you or almost immediately gives you a password prompt. I don’t see the point in the delay anyway. Especially such a long one.

iPhone 12, iOS 14

Because FaceID requires an entire face to work, not just half of one. Using half a face would probably mean rewriting the entire algorithm and would probably be much less accurate.

One of the more recent updates did add the feature so that the phone recognizes almost immediately that you're wearing a mask and brings up the number keypad. Make sure that you've got the most recent updates to iOS 14 installed.
