Why was Network Utility killed?
First, with Mavericks, Apple just made Network Utility harder to find. That was not really a problem. The kind of users that used Network Utility on a regular basis, (people who do Mac IT support) found it pretty quickly and just added it to the Dock while it was running.
But now, with the release of Big Sur, it is truly gone, or "deprecated."
If someone from Apple is monitoring this, can we get a reason?
I know that all of those tasks, (usually Ping and Lookup) are doable in Terminal, but they are quicker and easier with that handy GUI.
It was a handy application!
I am wondering that if Apple had a reason for killing their version, whether then they may not allow a third-party equivalent to be offered on the App Store either (which I would purchase in a heartbeat).
BTW, in Merriam Webster's definition of Deprecate the third usage is the one dealing with computers and software: "to withdraw official support for or discourage the use of (something, such as a software product) in favor of a newer or better alternative."
Where is our better alternative?
