My husband and I have been walking together for about 2 years. We both have iPhones. His always counts thousands more steps. Usually about 1500 more but the more steps, the higher the separation between his and mine. I actually take much smaller steps, he is large and I’m tiny, so my step count should be much higher. I’ve turned my phone on and off, tried everything, we’ve even changed phones during this period, it’s still the same.

A few things can impact it, but it won’t be 100% accurate for all.
It most likely is overestimating his steps, so he’ll want to try adjusting how he holds/wear it, too.
