iTunes on iphone - playlists and new Catalina MUSIC app.

i want to use itunes on Catalina the way i did on Mojave. I want to be able to control my data the way I want to. Syncing is not an option for me. I do not sync my libraries. my laptop music and my iphone music are 2 separate things. I have considerably more music on laptop than I have on phone. How can I reinstall a version of iTunes on Catalina so I can continue to use my devices the way I want to use them. or better yet, is there a 3rd party application i can use so i don't have to worry about apple's whims any longer.

Music and Finder in Catalina and Big Sur are much less suited to manual management than iTunes before them. It can be done, but you don't have the ability to play, edit, or listen directly to what it is on the device, and tracking down content to remove is more complicated. Syncing the device to a single playlist in Music gives you back all of the control, allowing you to add, remove, play, or edit any of the content that is scheduled to sync to your device. It also leaves you well placed to restore the selection if your device needs to be restored or replaced.
