Purple Image using built-in iMac Camera

When using my FaceTime HD built-in camera on my iMac (on the iMAC), everything works well for a while then suddenly—the image is completely purple (except a green shirt in the background)! To fix this, I have to Restart the computer.

Did not have this problem until the latest Big Sur update, but that may be correlation, not causation.

Anyone else having this problem? Can it be fixed? This happens anywhere the Mac Camera is being used, not only using FaceTime, but also Zoom. You can't do a professional work-related Zoom meeting like this.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, William!

We understand you're seeing a purple haze when using your built-in camera. We'd be happy to provide information to help you address this.

Does this happen within another user account? Since you mention the issue began after the last update, we want to make sure this is a software issue. Use these steps to create a new user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

If this does not happen within the new user account, there may be some driver that was installed at some point that may be causing the haze over the camera.

Let us know the results.

Have a great day!
