How do I get apps back on the home screen there were in a widget I removed?

I was moving an app on my home screen and a widget got created. Why? I have no idea. The widget contained the app I was trying to move and another app. I was able to remove the widget, but now neither app is on the home screen.

Then I saw these instructions:

Edit your widgets

With iOS 14, you can configure your widgets. For example, you can edit the Weather widget to see the forecast for your current location or a different location. Here’s how:

  1. Touch and hold a widget to open the quick actions menu.
  2. Tap Edit Widget .
  3. Make your changes, then tap outside of the widget to exit.

Problem is when I touch and hold the widget to open the quick actions menu, there is no option to "edit."

Just Rename, Edit Home Screen, Remove Folder

Remove widgets

  1. Touch and hold the widget that you want to remove.
  2. Tap Remove Widget.
  3. Tap Remove again to confirm.

What is the difference between "Touch and hold the widget that you want to remove" and "Touch and hold a widget to open the quick actions menu"?

How do I get those two apps back on the home screen?
