Mac Migration

I attempted to migrate everything from my old IMac to my new Mac Mini..... Applications seemed to come over, though they mostly don't function, but none of my files migrated. What did i do wrong?

Did you carefully respond to the various options which were offered to you? it sounds as if you elected to NOT transfer your files. That is one of the options presented. You can also transfer your applications or not. I recommend reinstalling the apps. (Some will need to be reregistered.)
