Storage space

Hi,

I have MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) with MacOS Catalina. Space is 121GB, when I check the storage it shows only 2.3GB is available from 121GB. However, in the left side I see the total space used is approx. 34GB. How is it possible that only 2.3GB is available when the space utilized is only 34GB?

can someone please help me resolve this issue? Thank you.

Regards

Santosh

Yes. It’s that “Other Volumes in Container” that is making it so you have so little space Available, even though you have so little Used within the accessible part of the drive.

Run Disk Utility (Launchpad -> Other -> Disk Utility), and set your View to “Show All Devices”, and show (or tell) us what the various Internal Volumes are.

(There are Terminal commands to show the same, all in textural form.)

Most likely, when your friend «cleared the disk and reboot it», something wasn’t done quite right, especially on the reinstall.

Its resolved, there was addidional APFS volume was created hence this problem was there. I have deleted it and got back 86 GB data.

Here is the screenshot , not the selected one, below it another partition was done and there was no data but it was helding memory. I don't how and why, since there was no data in it and there was an option to delet the Macintosh data, that resolved the problem.
