Infrared flashing light

I noticed my security camera behind me was picking up a flashing white light every few seconds from the top center of my iPhone.

its not visible to my naked eye I can only see it from viewing my security camera footage that shows me from behind looking at my iPhone 12 mini with flashing beams of light every few seconds. Not just for Face ID, but all of the time.

this kinda creeps me out Face ID isn’t enough to explain the incessant flashing at all times. Disconcerting.
