Texting alternate numbers

Several of my contacts have multiple numbers. How can I text a number that is not the default? When I pull up the contact the numbers are shown but the only option I can see is to tap the number which initiates a call which at times I'm trying to avoid if it is late at night or very early in the morning.

Hi csron1952,

It sounds like you're trying to message your contacts at another number and would like to know how to do so without tapping on the number to start a call. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities, and we can provide some assistance.

If running the latest iOS version, In Contacts > Scroll Down > Select 'Send Message' > Pick the number you'd like to send the message to.

We hope that helps with your question and take care!

Thank you, that did get me pointed in the right direction. You did leave out a couple of details that will help others in the future that experience the same difficulties. After selecting contacts, choose the recipient and then scroll down to send message.

Please don't misunderstand. I truly appreciate your time and I did find what you were talking about. Thanks again
