Files app: ‘Content unavailable’ error

Quite often the files in my local folder goes unavailable for access using the ‘Files’ app. This happens both in my iphone and ipad devices. It gets back to work only when i restart the device. Does anyone have a fix for it?

Let's try offloading the Files app and installing it again: How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch


"Use your device to check its storage

Go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage. You might see a list of recommendations for optimizing your device's storage, followed by a list of installed apps and the amount of storage each one uses. Tap an app's name for more information about its storage. Cached data and temporary data might not be counted as usage.

In the detailed view you can:

  • Offload the app, which frees up storage used by the app, but keeps its documents and data."

From your post, it's understood you're having troubles with the Files app. We'd be glad to help out. When this happens, are you currently uploading anything or making changes to documents? Does it seem to be anything specific when it occurs?


Try seeing if the same issue occurs on either another Wi-Fi network, or switch to cellular service on the iPhone. This could help rule out any network issues.


Make sure both devices are up to date and restart them if you haven't done so already:


Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


Restart your iPhone


Restart your iPad


Keep us updated.

Hello mathew, thanks for responding.


Actually i’ve faced this issue on different wifi networks. So changing networks has not helped me. And this issue happens with the local files folder only. Not with any of my cloud storage folders.


This happens all of a sudden at different situations. Sometimes, when am browsing through the files, or sometimes when am trying to open a file from local folder using some other apps. This happens randomly, am unable to specify it. But it gets back to normal only when i restart the device.
