Audio clicking when recording video using external microphones

Hi all.

I seem to be having issues when recording videos with external microphones.

There seems to be a static click now and again which can also be random.

Using the voice recorder app with the same microphone setup the audio is fine with no clicking etc. Just seems to be when recording with the video camera app.

I`ve also tested the mics on 3 android phones when recording video and all is okay.

I'm using an iPhone 6s with ios 14.4.01

Could it be a bug in the ios firmware?

Hello Andymchere,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are having an issue with using an external microphone with your iPhone, even after isolating this further. First, restart your iPhone as iOS clears cached data and does other system optimizations when you turn your device off and on.

Next, can you test this external microphone with another iPhone/iPad/iPod touch? Does this only happen when using the front or back camera on your iPhone? Also, what specific brand/model of external microphone are you having this issue with?

Hi. Thanks for the quick response.

I have already done a complete full reset of the phone. The mics used are the Sennheiser me2 and a sony ecm77b lavalier microphones.

The issue is present using the front and rear cameras.

I've plugged the microphones into a TRS to TRRS cable then into the phone's headphone jack and also into the lightning port using the conversion cable with no luck.

I have also used the irig pre with a rode vxlr adaptor with the mics but still, have the problem

I have tested the mics on my old iPhone4s and 3 android phones using both cameras and all work fine.

When I plug into my daughter's iPhone 6s or Ipad 6 (with firmware 14.4.01) I get the same issue.

If I use the voice memo application the microphones work fine on all apple devices but the issue starts when I use the video camera app.

This is why I'm guessing it could be a software issue
