iPhone XR callers can’t hear me

I have the iPhone XR and it’s 15 months old.

callers cannot hear me unless I put it on speaker. Privacy is difficult when you have to converse on speaker all the time.

I’ve seen conversations regarding this topic.

I’ve turned noise canceling off - no difference

I have contacted my network carrier and changed the SIM card twice, still no difference.

I don’t know what else to do but get a new phone but this one is only 15 months old, bought brand new.

Hey, kacey247 -

If you think your microphone could be at fault, then it might be a good idea to test it out in Voice Memos.

What you would want to do is open up Voice Memos and try to record a new memo. Once completed, play that memo back and see if you're able to hear your recording back. If not, then we can definitely say your microphone is acting up. If you do hear your voice, then it could be something else.

If the microphone is experiencing an issue, you can work through the steps here: If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working

Finally, if those steps don't resolve the issue, then you may want to see if hardware service is available in your region. The easiest way to do that would be to contact Apple directly: Contact Apple Support An advisor will be able to tell you what options you may have available to have the iPhone inspected and potentially repaired.

Cheers!

Hey there, kacey247!

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

We see that you're having an issue hearing callers on your iPhone XR and we definitely want to help figure that out. To start, can you please run through the troubleshooting steps in the article below?

This is going to be the best place to begin:

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

If the issue is still occurring after that, we'd recommend that you make sure your iPhone is fully up to date. Those steps can be found here: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If all these steps don't do the trick, we'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support to see if you can have your iPhone inspected. Your options for service will vary around the globe: Contact Apple Support

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!

Hi Joseph, thank you for your reply however it’s not that I can’t hear callers it’s callers can’t hear me.

I can hear the caller fine.

It’s when I talk they can’t hear me. It’s across the board with everyone whether the caller is on a mobile or landline.

so I’m thinking microphone rather than speakers but I’m not a phone technician 😀

any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

thank you
