Keyboard Lag / Delay after logged out for over an hour

I have a Mac mini that will have 2-3 second keyboard lag and extra ghost keystrokes when logged out for over an hour.

When attempting to log in, typing the first letter of my password will repeat several times. A single backspace will result in about 10 backspace strokes.

Issue is repeatable and corrected with a restart.

Anyone have this issue and a solution?

Hey there, KolbyPanda!

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities! If we understand correctly, you're experiencing a lag when using your keyboard with your Mac mini. We'll do our best to help get things running smoothly again!

To clarify, are you using a wired or wireless keyboard? If using a wired keyboard, can you try using another to test if this behavior persists?

If you're using a wireless keyboard, we recommend using the troubleshooting steps in the following support article to further assist with this issue:

If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't working with your Mac as expected - Apple Support

Should this persist, reply with the following details:

  • Does this happen with other keyboards, or does your current keyboard exhibit the same issue when connected to another Mac?
  • Is your Mac asleep when this happens, or is it completely logged out of your user account?
  • Do you have the latest macOS version installed?

Take care!
