Windy Conditions and Dead Cat with AirPods
To combat talking in windy conditions, I have been able to sew a deadcat onto the microphone of the Apple standard earpods wired headset. For those of you who have not used deadcats, they are the furry covering that news anchors and bloggers slip over their microphones. They completely cut out wind noise.
While AirPods have their native wind-noise mitigating feature, the sound quality is awful, tinny, and fluctuates the volume levels of the person speaking, and of course wind noise still finds a way to bleed through and makes the conversation cumbersome.
I wanted to find a way to bring the deadcat solution to airpods. Placing a deadcat on the airpods is not practical because of the charging case. But, using a separate microphone with a deadcat on it, clipped to my shirt would work perfectly. THE PROBLEM: with airpods, I can't find a way to have the phone activate the lapel microphone WHILE using listening through the airpods. We should be able to select mic input just like we can select sound output. Does anyone know of a fix? Apple - can you implement a mic selection when using airpods!
TIA!
