A new iPad with have 4G/LTE capability - whereas the SIM card from your old iPad may only be enabled for 3G connectivity. You will need to verify with your Cellular carrier if your SIM (and Cellular Service plan) require update.

It depends on your old and new iPad models (they may use different SIM card sizes). Identify them and let us know.
