Brand new Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max Overheating and Battery failure

Pulled the Brand New iPhone out of box and spent 4 hours trying to get the thing to cool down to set up. After a day overheating and shutting down I called Apple, with the guy on the other end telling me I have corrupt backup data. I am overseas trying to get it figured out and Apple blames me for their defective device. Anyone else having overheating issues or issues with the new iPhone 12?

How was your battery life were you able to get it fully charged? I have been on the phone to Apple and they just now agreed after the third test of re-setting that its a hardware problem, after telling me it was corrupt backup data.
