List of non-transfered purchased items

There are already many treads on the topic of the message displayed by iTunes:

There are purchased items on the iPhone ... that have not been transferred to your iTunes library.

(when updating from the iTunes desktop application)

Most 'solutions' point to the action [File->Devices->Transfer...]

But many people - like me - don't experience a solution in the action.

I suspect the reason for this persistent message is that I have apps on my phone that don't exist in the appstore anymore. I'd like to confirm or correct this suspected cause.

Therefore I have the following questions:

  1. Is there a way to get a list of purchased items that aren't transfered to iTunes?
  2. Will the Itunes desktop application download the purchased items from the iPhone or does it try to download a copy from apple?
  3. Do purchased items indeed include apps? The only list that the iTunes desktop application provides is a playlist of purchased music.

  1. No.
  2. iTunes will attempt to copy any purchased items that are on a device and not matched against purchased items in the library. It may be worth visiting your account where you could unhide any hidden purchases and download them.
  3. No, only media. Apps haven't been included in iTunes since version 12.7.

To transfer purchases your computer must be authorized to the Apple ID that made the purchase. Perhaps you have content on the device from an alternate Apple ID? It may be possible that a corrupted copy of a media file on the device could trigger the transfer process, but then fail to transfer. If you cannot resolve any other way see this post on erratic syncing.

Hi TT2,

Thanks for your reply earlier this week. Nice clear and short answers.

I'm considering the Backup/Restore function you linked to in your answer. (erratic syncing)

I've had issues that seem related to me in the past. (like getting stuck with "import Pictures and Video's" on some photos/videos)

I Needed to delete (or duplicate and delete original) the media files that windows import function got stuck on.

So my suspicion is now on storage/file-system issues.

Hopefully the backup / restore function might resolve that. Backup restore function has mostly worked great with Itunes. Though I have worries to loose a particular application that isn't listed anymore in the appstore.

Question:

Does anyone know if I loose an application that isn't listed in the appstore anymore when doing a

'backup' + 'restore as new device' procedure?

Yes. Only those apps that are still available in the app store will be restored to your device. If that is a concern you could try Setting > General > iPhone Storage > Music > Edit > All Songs > Delete as opposed to the deeper clean I've given in the thread, and see if content will sync correctly after doing that.
