Can iTunes files be deleted once imported to Music

I transferred iTunes files from an old iMac to a new MB Air and the music app. Can the iTunes folders be deleted after this transfer

Hi,

If you subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match and the music is in your iCloud music library you can remove downloaded tracks but you should make a backup of your music on an external drive.

If you don’t have a subscription, you will need to keep the music on your hard drive,

Depending upon exactly how you have imported the iTunes library into Music it may be the case that Music is making use of the old ..iTunes/iTunes Media folder. If so removing the iTunes folder would break the entries in your library. You can right-click on some sample files and use Show in Finder or Get Info > File tab to review where they are stored.

Jim - I do have an iTunes Match subscription. Is it possible to download a copy of my entire Match library onto an external hard drive and then I would be happy to delete my itunes library (which I know is not complete as I uploaded personal music to Match from two different computers which is the only comprehensive library I have).
